What is Bouldering

Bouldering is a form of free climbing where your challenge is to climb short but tricky bouldering problems. It requires strength, balance, technique and problem solving skills.

Bouldering climbs are high enough to be exciting but not so high that they are scary. Safety mats are used, so the risk of falling can be managed and there are no ropes, so you can concentrate on climbing and not managing equipment. You don’t need any special equipment apart from climbing shoes. You can hire a pair at Blochaus if you’re just looking to try it out. You also don’t need a partner, like regular roped rock climbing. But Bouldering is incredibly social so don’t be surprised if you end up making new friends!

Bouldering is a great workout. It uses muscles from all over the body including core strength. It’s a great way to keep fit and have fun at the same time. It’s also a great workout for the mind as you’ll be constantly solving problems and coming up with routes.

If you’re completely new to Bouldering you can take a Beginners course at Blochaus in Fyshwick. You’ll learn the basics as well as how to safely fall.
